What Is a Creative Block, Really
A lot of people think a creative block means something is wrong.
That they lost something.
That they are not as capable as they used to be.
That they need to try harder.
But from what I’ve seen, that’s rarely what’s happening.
A creative block is not the absence of creativity.
It’s the presence of interference.
What Interference Looks Like
It often shows up as:
overthinking
constant evaluation
pressure to produce
comparison
mental fatigue
The mind becomes very active, but not in a way that allows ideas to form.
Instead of letting an idea develop, it gets interrupted.
Judged too quickly.
Edited too quickly.
Dismissed before it has space to exist.
Why the Brain Does This
When your nervous system is under stress, your brain shifts priorities. It focuses on efficiency, safety, and predictability.
That is useful for problem solving. But it is not useful for creativity. Creativity requires space.
And when the system feels busy or tense, that space disappears.
Why It Feels Like You “Lost It”
Creativity is not something you can force. When the conditions are not there, it feels like it’s gone.
It is still there. It is just harder to access.
What Actually Helps
Instead of trying to “fix” creativity, it is often more effective to change the conditions.
That might look like:
giving yourself more mental space
reducing pressure
moving your body
stepping away from constant input (social media, TV, streaming, podcasts, books, etc)
Even small shifts in your state can change how ideas move.
A Different Way to Look at It
If you feel creatively blocked, it may not be a problem to solve.
It may be a signal.
A signal that your system needs something different.
More space. More quiet. Less pressure.
Where to Explore This More
I go deeper into this in the April 2026 hypnotic journeys on Seer Sessions, where we explore creative flow and how it returns in a more direct way.
Inside the membership (hosted on Patreon), this becomes something you can sit with and practice, through deeper conversations and guided hypnosis sessions.
