Scarier Than A 700 Mile Hike
I thought the hike was the initiation.
It turned out the harder work was staying put.
This is a private reflection on ambition, what I'm worth, and the subtle belief I have that makes growth and transformation more painful than it needs to be.
If you’ve ever asked yourself who you’re trying to become and what to do to get there, this conversation will meet you right where you are.
I planned a 700-mile hike because I knew exactly who I would become at the end of it.
Strong. Clear. Capable. Unshakeable.
But somewhere in the planning, I noticed something quieter and more uncomfortable: an old belief that says I have to suffer first to deserve the life I want. That heaven only comes after hell. That anything worth it has to hurt.
This conversation is the real story behind why I didn’t take that hike. Not because I couldn’t, but because I realized I was rehearsing a familiar pattern instead of listening to what was actually being asked of me.
What unfolds here is a reflection on endurance and attention. On the difference between a dramatic transformation through a dramatic journey and simple practiced presence. On building what's next quietly. Without a finish line, applause, or a story that makes sense to anyone else.
This isn’t a lesson in anything... just a moment of noticing. From inside the decision itself.
I'm curious if you feel this energy in your life or feel it in your history... this feeling of needing things to be difficult or hellish before you can enjoy the next good thing?

So at the end of 2025, I had completed some pretty big physical endurance events that were bigger than I had ever done. I was slash am feeling stronger than I ever have been. And I'm really trusting the training that I have, the knowledge that I have of how to be and take care of myself in the wilderness. I really thought like, is my next, I wanna do this.
big hike, I wanna do a 700 mile hike. My plan was to train for it so I could hike 20 miles a day with elevation with a 30 pound pack, 30 to 35 pound pack on. Not a small feat, but I felt like I could do it. There's a time in my life where that felt very insane, but I honestly am like, I could do this. That.
That rate would take me about six weeks, not to mention all the planning for it. So not only the physical training, but planning the physical training. I do those things myself. And I have a history in fitness and wellness and just like planning out everything, like my food. Anytime I do a long hike, I'm someone who gets very prepared. So if you see me on a trail and you ask me,
Is this such and such trail? Or is this how I get to the summit? I'm judging you. I'm judging you. Know those things before you go out. Get an app on your phone. We have these things. Get a fucking map. Do not be in the wilderness asking strangers where you're going. I mean, do it if you need to, but don't rely on that. Anyway, so.
I am someone who over prepares. Like I study the trail, I'm looking up videos of the trail, I'm reading people's accounts on the trail, I'm reading trail notes like where's the water, how's the water, what post office am I sending food to, what am I eating on the trail, you know, all of these things. Am I gonna be at that post office when that package comes? When do I mail that package? When do I have Alex mail that package?
Jina Seer (02:17.184)
So there's a ton of preparation to do and I was ready to do it. And I had had my calendar all set. I'm like, I'm gonna plan for this in the evenings and it's gonna be all good. And I'm gonna do my training and all of that. But I am someone who stresses out about like long hikes. I love them, but they terrorize me before I do them.
And I just didn't want another spring where I was feeling that way. And this hike would do that to me for sure. So I was really going into it. Like, what do I need to take care of myself before, during, all of that? I was thinking about all of that, putting in so much time, like in November, in December, in the beginning of January this year. And I really got clear on why am I doing this? That was a part of it. I'm like,
I know my mentality on the trail can get really low, especially if my nutrition is bad, if my sleep is bad. So how am going to take care of myself so my mental capacity doesn't completely drain? And I get, you know, completely depressed, anxious, negative out there because that will take me off the trail for sure. And I don't want to do all this planning and then bitch out because I didn't have the right mindset or didn't support myself well enough in a way.
that I know how to do so I could avoid certain things. So just digging into all of that and a big part of that, you know, every day I observe something new about this decision, but a big part of that was like, I know who I could be at the end of that hike.
Jina Seer (04:00.64)
And this hike is a real quick way to get to her. She's even more greater capacity to hold emotion and make decisions and hold emotion and still know what's true and right for me. Hold knowing of how I want to react, but internally, like as a reflex, but knowing ultimately that how I want to move forward is different.
How do I embody that? How do I become her? And this was just like, this is the fastest route I know. Every time I do a long hike, I'm an even better version of myself afterward. And it's like one of the reasons why I do them. And to me, to do something like that with the type of business I have too, I was like, fuck, I'm gonna have to do like a whole social media thing around this because it's taking up so much of my time.
that as a business owner, I should validate that with like, at least I'm growing my audience or something like that. And then it's like, well, do, what kind of audience will I be attracting with this? Do I want that? And honestly, I love hiking people. I think they're halfway to hypnosis when they're hiking, which is why they all like it so much. I think a lot of us in the back country, most of us who are putting down many, many miles are like battling demons for sure.
So there is an overlap there, but I personally just don't get off on that. Like follow my journey. Like to me, this stuff is, yeah, I like talking about it. I'm proud of it, but it's not like why I'm doing it. And with my business, my podcast, my clients, the work I do on myself, the life outside of work that I'm trying to enjoy is just like, it was just a lot. It was a lot.
to take that on and to do like a whole social media thing around it was something I was trying to wrap my mind around, trying to get like a vision and a plan for. But it really just felt, started to feel like a big ass distraction, honestly. Like, now I gotta, like I'm already trying to learn Instagram to kind of build that area of my business or make it a way that people can kind of get caught in it and learn about the work that I do in a different way than say the podcast.
Jina Seer (06:24.586)
And so I'm already trying to do that. I feel maxed out by that. I'm trying to learn YouTube. I'm gonna be doing more on YouTube this year. So to add in this layer, just because I felt like I had to be like building my business because this is taking up so much time, was like, okay, this is all becoming a little bit overwhelming. And I started to see that like I was in this habit of packing my evenings with work that wasn't necessarily what I call work, podcast, client work.
you know, all the admin shit that goes with with a business. Because in December of 2024, I had also started a Pilates training. And so since December 2024, all of 2025, basically, that's what I was doing in the evenings was like studying Pilates, practicing Pilates, planning Pilates classes. And so I was just in this habit of working. But I also know I can obviously get burned out when
fucking the moment I open my eyes to the moment I go to bed, I'm like scheduled with shit I need to do. So it was like, this isn't ideal, but if the payoff is there and there's an end in sight, I can keep doing this. But this conversation with Meredith, the astrologer kept coming to my mind. So in early 2025, Meredith, the astrologer and I, we met for a walk.
In Scottsdale, Arizona, she was visiting her parents and I came down from Prescott to meet her. And we had this really great walk and we were just kind of, it was early 2025 and we were just kind of reflecting on 2024. It was a big year for her. It was a big year for me. And we came to the conclusion that we both made huge leaps and bounds and we kind of like went from point A to point B. And even though they look different, like internally, the deeper conversation we were having.
even though it looked differently between us, the core part of it was the same. And I asked her, or I said to her, this is so interesting, because what I've been thinking about is that I always think I have to go through hell to get to heaven, or I can't enjoy heaven without going through hell. And we laughed about that, where she was like,
Jina Seer (08:45.186)
had these epiphanies of like who she wanted to be, how she wanted to be. So she just started being that way where I was like, no, I can't just be that way. I have to go through hell to do it. And I started to see this question that had been rolling around in my mind for a year came up with this 700 mile hike because it had been coming up all year, all year when I would notice myself being like, I want X, but before I do X, have to like,
go through the whole alphabet of hell. And I try to notice when I'm doing that and stop doing that, or be very intentional about all the other reasons why I'm doing it. But just to go through hell to get to heaven because then I can enjoy it, I'm trying to avoid doing that shit. Because it's expensive financially, energetically, time-wise, you know? And it's not that I wouldn't do it, but I just don't wanna...
That to me is a limiting belief, this going through hell to get to heaven. And it's right in alignment with like, essentially the emotional cutting I do or have done in the past. anyway, so I was like, who am I gonna be at the end of the 700 mile hike? And can I just be her now? It's gonna be hard, but can I just be her now? And so super long story, lot of thoughts in it.
but I was like, I could be her now because who is she? She's who I wanna be so I can build the business that I want next. And it's like, well, could you do that with a shorter hike? If you're so clear, Gina, on who she is, could you just be her? And in a moment when it's difficult and terrifying, could you get quiet and access who she is and just be her?
And again, like, I'm going to do big physical endurance efforts. I'm going to do cool shit. That's just who I am at this point. That's the type of life that I like to lead. And so how can I craft her and practice those parts of me on shorter hikes? And so with that, what I got was like evenings that are slower and a schedule that I feel like I can really settle into because I'm not like...
Jina Seer (11:09.31)
fearing being gone for six weeks. Another thing that really moved the needle for me was I noticed that at the end of an expansive time for me, like an Ayahuasca journey, like a two week trip to Egypt, or a culmination of things, I can be changed so much by a few events or a period of time that I kind of come out of there a little spun out.
like a little in need of time to figure out who the fuck I am now and what does this mean and things feel different and I need more clarity and something that's really common with a thru-hike which or a backpacking trip that's of you know weeks or months long what's typical when someone comes off of that is this depression a big change in life you know as a human
Most of us are happier, even though it might seem unfathomable, most of us are happier in nature without a ton of responsibilities or to-dos, but just like kind of living in nature with the rhythms, having a simple daily task every day. Get up, feed yourself, walk, feed yourself, walk, feed yourself, walk, feed yourself, go to bed. It sounds so silly, but like there's a part of our humanness, I think, that craves that.
that wants that. But there's also so many other things that we want anyway. So to come out of that experience, also, if you're someone to be out in the woods that long, you obviously a party you like said. And so there's this known depression that can happen afterward. And because I have such a propensity for depression and doing an expanding activity like that, I just didn't want to deal with the reentry. I feel like I'm in such a good place right now.
I'm really settling into my life for what feels like the first time ever or like deeper layers. I mean, I've been happy in my life. But this is like deeper. And so instead I'm embracing the terror of a career transition. A 700 mile hike for me is hard, but I know what to do. I know what to plan for. I know what to do.
Jina Seer (13:30.53)
But with this changing my business, going from one-on-one single session work that has worked for me so well for the last seven and a half years, and to be able to move to a space where I'm like, now I really wanna grow my podcast. Now I really wanna grow my community, my audience. Now I wanna do deeper work with people, like session packages where we're like going deep into an issue and I can watch you change.
and validate that change. Sometimes it's hard for us to see these changes because hypnosis happens on a subconscious level. To go through these changes alone is impactful and can indeed change your life. But I think when we have someone there watching us in that space, reflecting back the changes, it becomes even more validating and we can see even more of it in our life. And that's where I want to get. I also want to do more group hypnosis. Like I cannot, cannot believe I'm saying this.
But for the last couple of years, I have been craving in-person. I want more in-person community. I want more in-person experiences and all over in my life, but in my hypnosis work as well. And so to me, what that looks like is growing my podcast, growing my audience. So I can be like, hey everybody, I'm gonna be in Chicago. Come join me for this group hypnosis. Hey everybody, come join me in LA for this group hypnosis. Hey everybody, come join me.
in Prescott for this group hypnosis. Like, I wanna create these like mini retreat experiences, but it's like an evening together or an afternoon together. And I think energetically, it's just more feasible for me and for a lot of the people in my audience. And it's all exciting. And I have such a clear vision for the first time in my life. I know exactly where I'm going. I know what comes after that. That's how clear I am, but it's terrifying to me. This transition to...
quietly be working at it at home is more terrifying to me than a 700 mile hike. In getting to the heart of that, of like, or I could just settle in even more, do the terrifying work and just no applause, there's no finish line. I just show up, receive what I can, pray to see the hand of God in my life and I do.
Jina Seer (15:54.752)
and to feel that unexpectedly and on a daily basis. That is my work, is to quietly toil away. That makes me even more excited for this Patreon space and for this community that we're gonna build. And I just can't wait to get to know you. It's been over a year since I've done community work like this. And I wanna know like, how has it changed?
As I grow and evolve, I know my audience will too. And so everyone who has been here a while, I can't wait to continue to see the changes within us. But I can't wait to see as well, like the new people who show up and the new type of energy that this group brings in. So much has changed within me since I was doing membership work or group work like this. And yeah, I'm just really excited to re- reignite.
that part of my life and part of my work. Yeah, so it'll be an expansion of awareness and my capabilities of work and getting beyond imposter syndrome on a whole new level. So I'll be talking about all of that with you. Yeah, so I'm not gonna go into the wilderness for 700 miles, but I always go into the wilderness. So I've got some things that I'm planning instead.
And I'll let you know as they come up and as those plans solidify. For now, I'm just really focusing on like just showing up and doing the work and not needing to prove anything and to just kind of watch the voices within me that make me feel like, hey, this wasn't hard enough. You need to do it a different way or you're not good enough this way. And this is the place where I expand into that and trust that.
And it's what distinguishes this membership from the podcast. And I am so glad you're here. In the next episode, I'm going to share some clips from one of the most, two of the most impactful hypnosis sessions I've done that has really allowed my awareness, my consciousness to wake up even more to the next expansion, to the next level.
Jina Seer (18:12.49)
So look for that that's coming in the next episode.
